#skateboardproblems

Jake-BB Hello folks, It's been a while since my last post so I thought I'd drop a few lines to let you all know what I've been up to! So... Having spent weeks researching online and at the ripe old age of 27, I have purchased my first skateboard.  When I first started snowboarding, I always thought the process of picking a board was fairly simple... long or short, soft or stiff, freestyle or freeride, and then you factor in your height/weight. ...I wish I could say the same for skateboarding. Board width? Flat or concave? Truck size? Truck height? Wheel size? Wheel hardness? Bearings? ...Say what? I eventually decided to go for a Girl Malto Deck (7.8), Royal Trucks (Medium), some 52mm hard wheels (the name of which I cannot remember) and threw a decent set of bearings into them.  Is this a good setup? Five weeks on and I still have no idea. I've been riding once a week at my local skatepark in Warrington (Ramp1) - I'm completely terrible, but loving it.  There are quite a few people from Chill FactorE who like me, have just decided to pick it up and we're all practically at the same level.  We ride every Monday from 6pm onwards (which we've affectionately named "Ramp1 Mondays"), so if you're an experienced skater or even a complete beginner come down and shred with us!  The park's awesome! I'm not exactly a complete stranger to skateparks - I used to blade quite regularly as a kid - unfortunately I literally "fell" out of love with it when I snapped my wrist in half on a spine when I was 16.  However, in my time away from them, I've noticed that a few things have changed, and ALSO a few things are very very different from snowboarding... Mainly...
  1. Blading isn't considered "cool" anymore...
  2. Neither is wearing a helmet (not sure if it ever was to be fair)...
  3. Not having both feet strapped in when you fall is extremely useful...
  4. But you certainly ain't landing on snow (found that one out the hard way)...
And LASTLY but most importantly... Children on scooters are secretly planning to overthrow the government, and then the world. (If you've frequented a skatepark recently you will know what I mean). Jack-PS Besides skateboarding, I've been snowboarding quite regularly at Chill FactorE - including shredding the Boobytrap sessions with fellow blogger Corey Copeland.  Really enjoyed them and I feel like the guys have helped me step my riding up another level; honestly guys I couldn’t recommend it enough, whether you’re a complete newbie or an experienced freestyler.  Plus it's also given me the opportunity to get some awesome photos of all my friends. Over the past couple of weeks I've been asked by a few times how I get my photos so clear and what setup I use.  I'm currently using a Nikon D5300 (DX) DSLR with a Nikon 35mm 1.8 aperture prime lens, I don't tend to shoot with a flash at all if I can help it - I only shoot in JPEG as opposed to RAW at this moment in time. When it comes down to it, I'm just an amateur photographer and I find it really difficult to offer people advice - I suppose for me it was just getting to grips with the camera (understanding all the different settings and functions) and the rest is just trial and error.   I'd say for every 5 images I capture 3-4 will be useless (wrong angle, out of focus etc), so I solve that problem by taking more pictures!  Oh, and Photoshop is your friend, use it, learn it, love it. Boobytrap Corey-Sequence I’m going to be running a little free competition soon where you can win an hour long photo shoot at either Chill FactorE or a local skatepark of your choice.  All you will have to do is like/follow the Facebook and Instagram pages and then share/repost with a comment! I’ll pick three winners, and I'll also throw in a “No Comply” Tee for each winner.  The competition is open to anyone and everyone (ski, snowboard, skateboard, BMX, blades and scooters etc).   Keep your eyes peeled for more info! In the meantime if anybody would like any Vinyl stickers for your board/helmet/car/whatever then drop me an email and I can send them out to you free of charge. Stickers-1024x1024                 Be sure to check out the new ranges on the website, fresh off the press.  I’ve just ordered myself the WESC Worldwide Slacking Tee, the WESC Bikechain Conspiracy Tee and a set of the awesome Stance Athletic Fusion socks!  Get em’ whilst they last. Can't wait for them to come! Purchases-1024x392 Will hopefully see some of you out on the slope/park soon! Jay @jae_buckley / @nocomplyphotography www.facebook.com/nocomplyphotography
